Course description: Intermediate Korean is designed for students who have completed beginning-level Korean study and can communicate in familiar everyday situations using basic grammar and vocabulary. The course focuses on strengthening students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while expanding their grammatical knowledge and communicative competence. Through interactive discussions, authentic materials, and task-based activities, students will develop the ability to express themselves more fluently and accurately in a variety of social, academic, and cultural contexts. The course also explores contemporary Korean culture, society, and customs to enhance students’ intercultural understanding and language use.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: engage in sustained conversations on a range of everyday and topical subjects; describe experiences, events, and future plans in greater detail; express opinions, preferences, comparisons, and explanations with appropriate supporting reasons; understand the main ideas and key details of spoken and written Korean in familiar contexts; read and write short essays, emails, and narratives; apply intermediate-level grammar and vocabulary with increased accuracy; and demonstrate a deeper understanding of Korean culture and social norms in communication. It will also be useful to prepare for students’ future career working with Korean companies and institutions either domestic or abroad.
