Course Description

The North Texas Cochlear Implant (CI) Symposium provided an interprofessional program for audiologists, physicians, speech pathologists, and others involved in the care of CI recipients.  Topics discussed included outcomes in CI recipients, updated CI candidacy criteria, social and emotional cognition in CI users, and surgical considerations in special populations.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this session, learners will be able to explain the indications and patient selection criteria for hearing implants and describe key surgical and audiological processes involved in care. They will understand how pre-operative evaluation, device programming, and rehabilitation contribute to improved long-term speech and quality-of-life outcomes. Learners will also be able to analyze factors influencing patient success and the importance of ongoing, multidisciplinary follow-up. Additionally, they will identify strategies for developing and sustaining integrated networks of hearing and speech centers to enhance access, coordination, and quality of care.
