Advanced Chinese I (2019 Spring)

This course is for those who have learned Chinese for 2-3 years and have mastered about 1000 Chinese characters and the common grammar for Chinese communication. It focuses on strengthening students’ language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing of compound and comprehensive contexts. Students start to give factual statements, read materials written in formal Chinese, and write simple essays or reports. After completion of this course, students will master about 2500 Chinese characters, be able to use a wide variety of language skills and strategies to communicate freely with native speakers, reading materials like Chinese newspapers and magazines and watching Chinese movies. A wide range of Chinese history, philosophy and other compound cultural knowledge is introduced. The course is also designed for those who are preparing for HSK Test Level 5 and want to pass the test with a high score. Free textbooks, free registration for senoir citizens of 65+, free retaking if not satisfied with the result.
Prerequisites: Have completed Beginning and Intermediate Chinese courses, or have passed HSK Test Level 4, or have the Chinese language proficiency equivalent to HSK Test Level 4.
Duration: 90 minutes/class, 30 hours in total.

Textbook: New Practical Chinese Reader 3, 4 or 5 depending on the registered students' levels (ISBN 978-7-5619-3255-1)

Class Time: 7:00-8:30PM, 1/22-4/4, Tuesdays & Thursdays
